PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection method for oblique feeding and a detection device for oblique feeding, and a reader/printer device capable of precisely detecting medium obliquity of a recording medium. SOLUTION: The device is equipped with two sensors 42, 45 and a control part. The two sensors 42, 45 whose positions in the carrying direction are relatively same positional relationship are installed at two points whose orthogonally directional positions are separated in the carrying direction. The control part detects the presence of occurrence of oblique feeding of the passbook 8 by comparing and determining the amount of rotation of a drive motor during the time from the place where one sensor 45 out of two sensors 42, 45 detects the passing of the edge part 82 of a passbook 8 to the place where other sensor 42 detects the passing of the edge part 82 of the passbook 8, with a predetermined reference discrimination number while carrying the passbook 8 on the carrying path.
