PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming a black monochrome image against color signals in a variety of kinds of color spaces, by deciding a kind of the plurality of color spaces on each occasion, deciding an achromatic color according to the decided kind of the color space, and processing conversion of the color signal according to the kind of the color space. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a color space decision section for deciding the kind of the color space of a color signal on receipt of the color signal described by a page description language; an achromatic color decision section for deciding whether or not the color signal value is achromatic; a color converter for converting the color signal into a color signal of black monochrome according to the kind of the color space, on deciding the color signal is achromatic in the achromatic color decision section; and an image forming section for forming an image on a recording medium using a color material of black monochrome, on receiving the color signal of black monochrome converted by the color conversion section. By means of color signal conversion processing according to the kind of the color space, it becomes possible to print using a black monochrome toner. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
