CHARGING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS EQUIPPED THEREWITH

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device, capable of uniformly electrifying a body to be electrified and of preventing reverse charge from being imparted to residual toner on the body to be electrified.

SOLUTION: The charging device is equipped with a charging member opposed to the peripheral surface of the body to be charged, which is rotated. It is equipped with a voltage applying part for applying a pulsating voltage Vsp obtained, by superposing a DC voltage component on a cyclically changed voltage component between the charging member and the body to be charged. The relation Vpp≤¾Vth¾ is satisfied between the peak-to-peak voltage value Vpp of the pulsating voltage Vsp and the charge start voltage value Vth of the body to be charged.
