PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a label inspection apparatus for surely judging whether a label is attached or not with no influence of the background color of or the detail of the printing, etc. of a label. SOLUTION: This label inspection apparatus judges whether or not a label is attached to an item. The apparatus comprises an input means for obtaining a brightness waveform along the detection line crossing the label attaching area of the item, a differentiation means for generating a differential waveform by calculating the differentiation of the brightness waveform, and a judging means for judging whether or not the label is attached on the basis of the differential waveform.
