PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber strand affording a carbon-fiber reinforced resin composite material having excellent adhesiveness to an unsaturated matrix resin and excellent physical properties such as wettability and ILSS (interlaminar shear strength). SOLUTION: The carbon fiber strand is obtained by applying a sizing agent comprising an ester compound containing functional groups represented by general formula (1) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>denotes hydrogen, a 1-4C alkyl group or a 1-4C hydroxyalkyl group] at both ends of the compound and an isocyanic acid ester compound.
