PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distortion correction method capable of accurately correcting distortion of a projected image, and a projector using the above distortion correction method. SOLUTION: The projector includes projection parts 40, 50, 60 for projecting an image onto a projection target plane, an imaging section 90 for imaging the projected image, a focus lens 66 for adjusting the image focus, a focus lens driver 110 for driving the focus lens 66, a focus lens position detector 120 for detecting the drive position of the focus lens 66, and a decision section for deciding whether the focus lens 66 is positioned in a focusing position of the image obtained by the imaging section 90. Further, the projector includes an image processor 20 for adjusting the projected image for correcting the distortion, based on the drive position of the focus lens 66 when the decision section decides that the position of the focus lens 66 is in the focusing position for at least two predetermined locations in the image, respectively.
