PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus wherein a fixing temperature of a fixing unit is appropriately controlled in accordance with an ambient temperature of air near the fixing unit, then, a fixing performance can be improved, and also, a complicated operation expression is not required, then, a cost required for a work of setting a processing program in a controller can be reduced. SOLUTION: The ambient temperature Tf near the fixing unit is detected, and whether the detected value is lower than a previously set threshold Ts (15°C) is determined. In the case the detected value is lower than the threshold Ts, the fixation control temperature is decided as a 1st set fixation temperature (185°C) by a controller, and the surface temperature of a heat roller is controlled to be 185°C. On the other hand, in the case the detected ambient temperature Tf is higher than the threshold Ts, the fixation control temperature is decided as a 2nd set fixation temperature (165°C), and the surface temperature of the heat roller is controlled to be 165°C.
