PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for reading out and evaluating magnetic information by using a magnetic optical medium. SOLUTION: In this magnetic information reading/evaluating method for reading the magnetic information of an object including magnetic information by a magnetic detecting means, and evaluating the same, the magnetic optical medium manufactured by forming a Bi-substituted magnetic garnet film represented by a chemical formula mentioned below, on a specific crystalline face of a garnet single-crystalline base, is used as the magnetic detecting means, a magnetic distribution of the magnetic information of the evaluated object is detected by the magnetic detecting means, and the magnetic information is read out and evaluated on the basis of the detected magnetic distribution.(Bi<SB>w</SB>R<SB>1-w-x</SB>Pb<SB>x</SB>)<SB>3</SB>(M<SB>y</SB>Fe<SB>1-y</SB>)<SB>5</SB>O<SB>12</SB>, R=one or two kinds of Lu and Yb, M=one or two kinds of Ga and Al, 0.25≤w≤0.7, 0≤x≤0.05, and 0≤y≤0.24.
