<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress image data without being accompanied by image quality degradation in a region important in terms of diagnosing and to reduce the data capacity of medical images. <P>SOLUTION: In the case of executing a compression processing to the image data, this image processor 2 recognizes and sets the region including an object to be a diagnosing object and extracts it as a region of interest. Then, a reversible compression processing is executed to the extracted region of interest and first compressed data are generated. Also, an irreversible compression processing is executed to the entire medical image by a compressibility higher than the one for the region of interest and second compressed data are generated.
