<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arrangement having a high degree of freedom in the operation of two internal combustion engines in a power output unit comprising two motors and two internal combustion engines and an automobile mounting it, and to enhance the energy efficiency of a vehicle as a whole. <P>SOLUTION: A motor MG1 is connected with a sun gear 31 in a first planetary gear P1 of a power distribution/integration mechanism 30, an engine EG1 is connected with a carrier 34 of the first planetary gear P1 and a ring gear 37 in a second planetary gear P2, an engine EG2 is connected with the ring gear 32 in the first planetary gear P1 and a carrier 39 of the second planetary gear P2, and a motor MG2 and a drive shaft 65 are connected with a sun gear 36 in the second planetary gear P2. Drive control is carried out by selecting an operation pattern for operating an automobile efficiently depending on the request of a driver from a first operation pattern for outputting power from the engine EG2 to the drive shaft 65, a second operation pattern for outputting power from the engine EG1 to the drive shaft 65, a third operation pattern for outputting powers from both the engines EG1 and EG2 to the drive shaft 65, and a motor operation mode for stopping the engines EG1 and EG2 and outputting power from the motor MG2 to the drive shaft 65. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
