<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating mechanism equipped with a door weight offset means for attaining the smooth displacement of a door by a motor capable of optimizing dimensioning without using an irreversible reduction gear. <P>SOLUTION: This mechanism 1 has an electric motor 5, a member 4 driven by the motor 5 and connected in motion to the door, and means 126, 127 for at least partially offsetting C<SB>1</SB>torque C<SB>2</SB>applied to the member 4 by the weight of the door 100. A brake 8 interposed between the motor 5 and the member 4 applies braking force C<SB>8</SB>to the motor 5 at least in the moving stage of the door 100, and in this case, the combined force C3 of the weight of the door 100 and forces F<SB>1</SB>, C<SB>1</SB>applied by the offset means 126, 127 works to displace the member 4 in the same direction as the motor 5.
