PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain target devices that are made to identify all controllable subunits among a plurality of target devices that exist, display all of the controllable subunits in a table of one unit on the screen and select the subunits in a controller device. SOLUTION: When the controller device 40 and target devices 20a, 20b, ... are connected to an IEEE1394 bus 30, the controller device 40 determines whether each subunit can be controlled by the controller device 40 on the basis of a subunit type obtained as a detailed identification result of subunits (e.g. D-VHS, DV and satellite digital tuner) included in the target devices 20a, 20b, 20c and 20d through the IEEE1394 bus 30, and presents respective subunits determined to be controllable as a controllable module on the screen in such a format that can be used by a user.
