PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pin for a chain whose wear resistance can be improved. SOLUTION: A linking pin 3 for a silent chain is subjected to VC (vanadize) treatment. Thereafter, the outermost surface layer of its base material is subjected to barrel polishing treatment, so as to be removed. Thus, a VC (vanadium carbide) layer from which impurities largely comprising vanadium carbides other than V8C7are removed is formed on the outermost surface layer of the base material.
