A vehicle battery interchange system comprises an interchange bay at which the vehicle may be parked and a fresh battery store (4) containing fresh batteries (8) for loading into the vehicle. A transfer loader transfers batteries (8) between the store and the vehicle. The system operates such that the transfer loader (10) is able to manipulate the batteries to adjust position in mutually perpendicular translational movement directions and also tilt, and/or rotate or yaw about an upright axis, in order to accurately address the battery chamber of the vehicle. Additionally or alternatively, the fresh battery store includes a substantially triangular battery store chamber or cage for containing substantially triangular configuration batteries and/or the vehicle includes a substantially triangular battery chamber for receiving the triangular configuration batteries. |
