A depilatory method involves the application of a depilatory composition to skin. The depilatory composition on the skin may be contacted by a fin. The fin is part of a device (2), also having a handle and an opening (16) defined between the fin and the arms (22), and in front of the handle. In use the fin is moved over the skin and break weakened hairs, while the depilatory composition passes through the opening. The effective length of the fin may be adjustable .
