687,931. Detectors. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Sept. 21, 1949 [Sept. 22, 1948; Feb. 5, 1949], Nos. 24299/49 and 24300/49. Class 37. In an electrical point-contact rectifier device comprising a crystal 10 and a cat's whisker 12 enclosed in a hermetically sealed tubular vitreous envelope 22, metal sleeves 24, 26 are sealed by fusion into the ends of the envelope and have portions 27 which extend outwardly with respect to a longitudinal axis of the envelope and which abut the extreme ends of the envelope, conducting rods 14, 16 for supporting the crystal and cat's whisker in fixed, initial contact; extending through the sleeves and being sealed thereto. A waterproof cement or low temperature solder 28 seals the rods 14, 16, into the sleeves. Specification 616,065, [Group XL (c)], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also an arrangement in which the sleeves are dispensed with and the conducting rods are sealed by fusion through the envelope wall. The rods are made long in proportion to their cross section to prevent damage to the crystal and cat's whisker by heating. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
