PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a collagen synthesis inhibitor which does not affect the proliferation of cells and has high safety. SOLUTION: It was found that short chain peptides containing glycine and proline had a selective collagen synthesis-inhibiting effect. When the effects of these peptides on the proliferation of cells was examined, the peptides specifically inhibited only the synthesis of collagen without affecting the proliferation of cells. Further, in a cirrhosis rat model, the peptides improved serum GOT (glutamic oxalacetic transaminase) and GPT (glutamic pyruvate transaminase) values and inhibited the deposition of live collagen. It is considered that the identified peptides can be used as collagen synthesis inhibitors, and especially are useful as medicines which are used for preventing and treating fibrosed diseases including cirrhosis and little produce side effects.
