PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new preparation method by which a high-quality 4-aryl-1,4-dihydro-2,6-dialkyl-3,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid asymmetric ester, exhibiting excellent therapeutic effects as a vasodilator or an antihypertensive, is synthesized by a simple operation with a high yield. SOLUTION: The preparation method is characterized by that, in synthesizing the 4-aryl-1,4-dihydro-2,6-dialkyl-3,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid asymmetric ester by cyclocondensation of benzylidene acetoacetate and 3-aminocrotonate, the reaction is performed while water generated as a by-product by the addition of a desiccant and/or a dehydrator to the reaction system in an organic solvent is being removed.
