<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance phase detector including a local digital oscillator which generates a digital reference signal with a frequency and a phase controllable by a program. <P>SOLUTION: The phase detector stores a phase difference between the digital reference signal and a sampled input signal, and creates an index of a phase error. The detector is used in a frequency synthesizer and has the advantage that it can generate a signal with a low phase noise and accurate phase control. In addition, the synthesizer of this kind is used like a building block in an ATE system and other electronic systems which generate a low-jitter clock and waveform. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
