<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viewing angle control element which has high effect of switching between a wide viewing angle and a narrow viewing angle, and a liquid crystal display device which is adaptive to various use environments and usage by using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is equipped with a couple of substrates 61 and 62, a liquid crystal layer 65 which is sandwiched between the couple of substrates 61 and 62 and has liquid crystal molecules in a hybrid alignment state, a liquid crystal cell 2 for viewing angle control which has a couple of electrodes 63 and 64 for applying an electric field to the liquid crystal layer, and a liquid crystal cell 1 for display. One electrode 64 is patterned and a display area includes a place where the electrode 64 is present and a place where the electrode is absent. The alignment state of liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer 65 is changed with the applied voltage to control the viewing angle of the liquid crystal cell 1 for display. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
