PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy dissipator capable of utilizing a water storage space to the maximum and improving the degree of freedom in selecting an installation place by eliminating a part exposed to the ground surface. SOLUTION: This energy dissipator is used for dissipating the energy of high speed running water discharged from a sewer such as a sewer pipe 3 piped in a slope. An energy dissipating tank 11 having an inflow port 11a and an outflow port 11b, and a confluence tank 15 located downstream of the energy dissipating tank 11, are connected in communication by an outflow main 12 connected to an outflow port 11b provided with a pipe bottom part 11k in a higher position than a pipe bottom 3a of the inflow port 11a.
