PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of removing a cover frame of a manhole (manhole cover frame), which is arranged in a paved surface (road surface) of a road, floor surface, or the like paved with concrete or asphalt. SOLUTION: The method is comprised of a circularly cutting step of cylindrically cutting a road surface layer from above the road surface to below the road surface along an outer edge of the cover frame of the existing manhole; a cover frame fixing bolt cutting step of cutting a cover frame fixing bolt fastening a manhole main body and the cover frame together, from inside the manhole; and a cover frame pull-out step of pulling the cover frame from which the cover frame fixing bolt has been cut away, onto the road surface. Alternatively the method is comprised of a circularly cutting step of cylindrically cutting the road surface layer from above the road surface to below the road surface until reaching a lower side of a bottom surface of the cover frame along the outer edge of the cover frame of the existing manhole; a horizontally cutting step of horizontally cutting a gap between the manhole main body and the bottom surface of the cover frame from inside of the manhole toward a cylindrically cut portion; and a cover frame pull-out step of pulling the cover frame onto the road surface.
