<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp unit suitable for a projector which a user can handle, by preventing partial heating of a sealed type reflector-having lamp and making the temperature distribution of the lamp as uniform as possible. <P>SOLUTION: The optical unit A1 comprises: the reflector-having lamp a used in a sealed state and having a high voltage discharge lamp 1, a metal reflect 4 to which the high voltage discharge lamp 1 is fixed, and a front glass 3 closing the front opening of the metal reflector 4; and a filter F which is disposed in front of the reflector-having lamp a and reflects the ultraviolet rays L2 and infrared rays L3 of emission light L from the metal reflector 4 towards the metal reflector 4 and transmits the visible rays L1 of the emission light L.
