PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct acting type valve gear for an internal combustion engine, capable of preventing abrasion of an abutment surface of a counter member to which a cam piece of a camshaft is directly abutted by changing an abutment position of the cam piece with the counter member. SOLUTION: This direct acting type valve gear for an internal combustion engine, provided with a camshaft comprising a shaft, and a cam piece comprising a circular base part of a circular form and a nose part projected from the circular base part, and the counter member to which the cam piece of the camshaft is abutted. The cam piece is disposed as the center line of the cam piece connecting the width center of a top part of the nose part to a width direction center of a bottom part of the circular base part is inclined to a perpendicular line extended to the axial line of the shaft. The cam piece is composed in such a way that the width direction center of the top part of the nose part does not coincide with the center of the counter member in the axial line direction of the shaft.
