The present invention provides methods of determining gonadotropin activity comprising administering to a mouse at least one gonadotropin and detecting at least one endpoint, wherein said mouse has an altered response to gonadotropins. In certain embodiments, the methods provide, inter alia, for an in vivo bioassay for the quantification and standardization of gonadotropins. In certain embodiments, the invention provides, inter alia, for a murine bioassay wherein at least one endpoint is detected. In certain embodiments, the endpoint is a functional or morphometric endpoint.
