<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet processing device capable of creating a standard pattern of corresponding identification object paper sheets when input image patterns of the identification object paper sheets start to change, and a rate of change exceeds a predetermined value. <P>SOLUTION: A similarity calculating part 56 calculates similarity values Si between image data (input image data) of paper sheets P stored in an image memory 55 and N pieces of standard patterns. A denomination determining part 57 regards a denomination showing a maximum value from the similarity values Si as a denomination candidate, and it determines whether a threshold is exceeded.
