摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation element capable of optically compensating a liquid crystal layer of a black display state at high accuracy and preventing light leakage at a wide viewing angle, a method for manufacturing the optical compensation element, and a liquid crystal display device and a liquid crystal projector capable of obtaining high viewing angle, high contrast and high picture quality by using the optical compensation element. <P>SOLUTION: The optical compensation element is provided with a first optical anisotropic layer formed by an inorganic material and a second optical anisotropic layer formed by a polymeric liquid crystal compound which are formed at least on one surface of a support. The method for manufacturing the optical compensation element is provided. The liquid crystal display device is provided with a pair of electrodes, a liquid crystal element having liquid crystal molecules to be sealed between the pair of electrodes, the optical compensation element to be arranged on both surfaces or one surface of the liquid crystal element, and a polarizing element arranged oppositely to the liquid crystal element and the optical compensation element. The liquid crystal projector displays an image by irradiating the liquid crystal display device with illuminating light from a light source and forming an image of light optically modulated by the liquid crystal display device on a screen by a projecting optical system. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
