PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for synthetic resins, which is cheap and excellent in dispersive properties and which, particularly useful as an anti-blocking agent or a light-diffusing agent, gives a synthetic resin composition excellent in anti-blocking property and light-diffusing property. SOLUTION: The additive for synthetic resins is an inactive fine particle consisting of heavy calcium carbonate and satisfies the following expressions (a)-(c): (a), 1≤d50≤15 [wherein d50 is a mean particle diameter (μm) of the particles of the additive for synthetic resins, determined by Microtrac-FRA]; (b), if 1≤d50≤7, 0≤α≤2.5, and if 7<d50≤15, 0≤α≤2 [α=(d90-d10)/d50], [wherein d90 is a cumulative particle diameter (μm) of the volume-base 90% screen pass-through of the additive particles, determined by Microtrac-FRA, and d10 is a cumulative particle diameter (μm) of the volume-base 10% screen pass-through of the same]; and (c), V<SB>05</SB>≤10 [wherein V<SB>05</SB>is a volume ratio (wt%) of the ultra-fine particles of≤0.486μm contained in the additive, determined by Microtrac-FRA].
