PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nail polish composition having long-term durability and expressing excellent properties including excellent physical properties, gloss, transparency and coat viscosity. SOLUTION: The nail polish composition comprises about 0.01-20 mass% of nonaggregative particles about 5 nm to about 100 nm in average size, a main coating film-forming polymer, a 2nd coating film-forming polymer, at least one plasticizer and at least one solvent. This composition is such that the particles have no reactive groups on the surface and the refractive index is about 1.4 to about 1.7. A method for using this composition is also provided.
