PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new anthracene compound suitably usable as a luminescent material of an organic electroluminescent element; and an organic electroluminescent element using the compound. SOLUTION: The anthracene compound is represented by formula (1) [wherein Y<SB>1</SB>-Y<SB>10</SB>are each hydrogen, a halogen, or the like, provided that each of Y<SB>1</SB>-Y<SB>10</SB>may form a ring with its adjacent group and that at least one of Y<SB>1</SB>-Y<SB>10</SB>is a group represented by formula (2) (wherein X is oxygen, sulfur, or -N(R)-; and R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>, and R are each hydrogen, a halogen, or the like)].
