PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform more accurate prediction in a comparatively short time when performing the shape prediction of a plate-like press formed article. SOLUTION: This method is a predicting method of the shape of the press formed article by which the shape of the press formed article W which is obtained by performing press forming is predicted as acting compressive stress in the thickness direction on a part of a base stock by passing a part of the plate-like base stock M through the corner radius parts 2k of a die 2 by the pressurization of a punch 6 and is provided with the step where material models having different characteristics in a part where is passed through the corner radius parts and the other part where is not passed through are set about a material model of the press formed article and stress in every part which is generated in the moving process of the material in accordance with the progress of the pressurization of the punch is calculated on occasion corresponding to the movement of the material and a step where the shape of the press formed article after elastic recovery is predictively calculated by solving the balance of the calculated stress in every part.
