PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chair type massager capable of executing massage similar to linear rubbing while absorbing the deviation of a part to be treated to an air bag during the reclining operation of a backrest without the need of a mechanism of moving the air bag which is a treater to the backrest. SOLUTION: In the chair type massager, the backrest 4 can be driven in the direction of being brought down and the direction of being raised by an automatic reclining device and the air bags 21a, 21b, 22a, 22b, 23a and 23b for executing the massage to the upper half body of a sitting person by being expanded and contracted by the air supply and discharge of air are fixed to the backrest 4. The chair type massager is provided with solenoid valves (expansion holding means) 33-39 for holding the air bags in an expanded state and a controller 41 for controlling the valves and the operation of the electric motor 16 of the automatic reclining device. The controller 41 has a reclining massage mode and executes the drive of the backrest 4 in the direction of being raised and brought down in the state of holding the expansion of the air bags.
