The device (10) can be integrated in the frame of a bed, a sofa, or an easy chair and is particularly useful for avoiding bedsores. A lifting element (11) is swivel mounted with its rear end to a cylindrical drive housing (13) with a transmission unit (17) laterally attached. When the drive (13) is activated an elastic element (14) is pulled back and a string (15) wound up on a drum (16) acting on the lifting element (11) either individually as required or in preprogrammed intervals.
