FIELD: mechanical engineering. ^ SUBSTANCE: method comprises applying a coating on the metallic rod by means of alternately winding of flexible belts made of different materials. The last layer of the coating is used as a shell. The material of the belts may contain the powders of the coating components. The belts may be provided with a glue coating, or in the process of winding the glue and powders of the coating components may be applied to the belts, or the belts may be pulled through hoppers filled with the powders of the coating components or the powders mixed with a glue binder.
