<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier with the less wavelength dependency of the gain, free from a variation of input power or the number of channels in a WDM. <P>SOLUTION: In an optical amplifier which amplifies and outputs wavelength-division-multiplexing signal light, this optical amplifier comprises an optical amplification medium applied with wavelength-division-multiplexing signal light, a means for carrying out the pumping of the optical amplification medium, and a monitor means for detecting the spectrum of amplified wavelength-division-multiplexing signal light which is output from the optical amplification medium. Further, the amplifier has a parameter control means for controlling parameters on which the gain properties expressing the relationship between the gain and wavelength of an optical amplification medium depend, and for making the gain properties in a band including each wavelength of wavelength-division-multiplexing signal light flat, on the basis of the detected spectrum. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
