PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a plastic optical fiber which is superior in mechanical strength and suppresses the deterioration in transmission loss. SOLUTION: An inner clad pipe 12 is manufactured from PVDF by using a melt extrusion process. An outer core 14a consisting of PMMA is formed in the inner clad pipe 12 by a rotation polymerization method. An inner core 14b is formed in the outer core by an interface gel polymerization method, and thus a GI type core part forming rod 15 is obtained. An outer clad pipe 16 is manufactured from PVDF by using a melt extrusion process. The core part forming rod 15 is put in the outer clad pipe 16 to obtain a preform 19. The plastic optical fiber is obtained by hot melt drawing the preform 19. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
