PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus capable of producing a round bar-like lumber and a pipe-like lumber from a log with a good yield. SOLUTION: The log is supported under a standing condition in the up and down direction, and a core cutter is arranged below the log under a condition where the axial lines of the log and the core cutter coincide with each other in a straight line. While the log is rotated around the axial line direction as a center, the log is cut into a cylindrical shape by relatively moving the core cutter up and down to the log, and the core cutter is pulled out from the log. Successively, the log is cut into a concentric circle by relatively elevating and lowering another core cutter with a larger aperture to the log to produce the round bar-like lumber and the pipe-like lumber from the log. Scraps are sucked by sucking the lower side inside of the core cutter from the outside of the core cutter during cutting. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
