<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of efficiently compressing a plurality of single-band images. <P>SOLUTION: A single-band image the average of pixel values of which is maximum among eight single-band images 71 is selected as reference data 72. On the other hand, differences among the eight single-band images 71 are calculated to create seven difference data 73. Further, a bit length for expressing pixel values of each of the seven difference data 73 is converted into a length whereby a maximum value of the pixel values can be expressed. Thus, seven reduced difference data 74 are created. The reference data 72 and the seven reduced difference data 74 are compressed into first and second compressed data, respectively, and one multi-band image file 78 including them is created.
