PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of preventing an alignment film from deteriorating. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal device 60 having a liquid crystal layer 50 sandwiched between a couple of substrates 10 and 20 is constituted by forming water-repellent layers 80 and 90 on surfaces of transparent electrodes 9 and 21 for applying an electric field to the liquid crystal layer 50 and organic alignment films 16 and 22 aligning liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer 50 on surfaces of the water-repellent layers 80 and 90. The surfaces of the water-repellent layers 80 and 90 are preferably subjected to hydrophilic processing. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
