PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent gas barrier film 10 being a polymeric substrate excellent in flexibility and lightweight properties, not cracked, capable of being bent, excellent in high degree heat resistance, especially excellent in gas barrier properties and usable in place of a glass substrate. SOLUTION: The transparent gas barrier film is obtained by successively forming a transparent resin base material film 11 with the coefficient of linear expansion of 15-100 ppm/K and a glass transition temperature Tg of 150-300°C, a first transparent inorganic compound layer 13A, a sol-gel coating layer 15A and a second transparent inorganic compound layer 13B the Ra (average rouphness) of the second transparent inorganic compound layer 13B is 5 nm or below and the Rmax (maximum roughness) thereof is 80 nm or below.
