PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a newly constructed foundation structure which can surely prevent wastewater from percolating into a load-bearing layer, and which can enhance the whole earthquake-resistant performance. SOLUTION: In a newly constructed bridge pier 10, a newly constructed footing 11 is borne on heads 12b of a plurality of newly constructed piles 12 whose leading ends 12a are sequentially driven in from a burying soil layer 5 as an uppermost layer to a waste layer 6, an impervious layer 7 and the load bearing layer 8 as a lowermost layer. In the foundation structure, a square tube-shaped steel sheet pile wall 13 is provided in the ground at least in the upper section of the impervious layer 7 from the burying soil layer 5 around the footing 11; the ground at least in the upper section of the impervious layer 7 in the wall 13 is improved by solidification; and cement-mixed soil 15 is infilled into a section from an undersurface 11a of the footing 11 to a depth in a range effective for the horizontal resistance of the plurality of newly constructed piles 12 in the wall 13.
