PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance display quality by decreasing black luminance and increasing a contrast ratio (CR) when no electric field is applied, i.e. in a black display state. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes a 1st base substrate, a gate wire formed on the 1st base substrate, a data wire formed on the gate wire, a switching element which is connected to a portion of the gate wire and a portion of the data wire, a pixel electrode which is electrically connected to the switching element, and a domain forming means formed on the pixel electrode, a 1st base substrate including a 1st alignment film formed on the domain forming means, a 2nd substrate including a common electrode 210 formed on the 2nd base substrate, a projection part which is formed on the common electrode and includes a 1st projection 221 and a 2nd projection 222 having mutually different heights, and a 2nd base substrate including a 2nd alignment film 220 formed on the projection part, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the 1st substrate and 2nd substrate.
