PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt-type continuously variable transmission capable of realizing smooth shifting, while preventing the generation of slip of a belt, without a complicated process. SOLUTION: Steady driving pulley thrust Fpri(f1) to be required to maintain shifting ratio i just before shifting, while pinching the belt 4 with a driving pulley 2 without generating a slip, a pulley thrust difference F(v) for target shifting speed to be required to achieve target shifting speed V1, and a pulley thrust difference F(fb) for feedback of shifting ratio based on a difference between the target shifting ratio I and real shifting ratio i are computed. and thereafter, the thrust difference F(v) and the thrust difference F(fb) are added to obtain shifting thrust F(th). In the case of the shifting thrust F(th)≤0, shifting steady driving pulley thrust Fpri(f2) is computed, and steady driven pulley thrust Fsec(f1) and the shifting thrust are added to set target driven pulley thrust Fpri(o). When shortage of the driven pulley thrust in the quick shifting condition is determined, real driven pulley thrust Fsec is subtracted from the target driven pulley thrust Fsec(o) to compute non-achievement thrustΔF(th) in relation to the shifting thrust.
