PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear oil composition resistant to higher temperatures and withstanding operation under a higher load together with a tendency to a higher speed and a higher output as a gear oil in response to high efficiency and low cost because of requests for gears used for various kinds of industrial machines, specifically a gear oil having excellent energy-saving properties. SOLUTION: The gear oil composition is obtained by including a component (A) and/or a component (B) in at least one kind selected from mineral oils, oils and fats and synthetic oils as a base oil. The component (A) is composed of at least one kind of compound represented by general formula (1) R<SP>1</SP>-CO-NR<SP>2</SP>-(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>-COOX<SP>1</SP>(1), general formula (2) [R<SP>1</SP>-CO-NR<SP>2</SP>-(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>-COO]<SB>m</SB>Y<SP>1</SP>(2) and general formula (3) [R<SP>1</SP>-CO-NR<SP>2</SP>-(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>-COO]<SB>m</SB>-Z-(OH)<SB>m'</SB>(3).
