PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film in which, even if the surface film wears out, the surface layer is restored, and whose satisfactory sliding properties can be continuously maintained. SOLUTION: The inventions are a B-N based film formed on the surface of a substrate by an ion plating method, and from which ammonium borate can be formed by its exposure to the air, an ammonium borate based film formed on the substrate, and a sliding member having the film.
