PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient system for making payments using applications in a mobile phone and method of operating a payment system.

SOLUTION: A system for making payments includes at least one mobile station including an application, a means for using the application and a first means data transfer; and at least one payment receiving terminal which has a second means for data transfer and is coupled to the first means of the mobile station for the second means for data transfer via a wireless interface. In order to register a payment transaction inside the payment receiving terminal, there is included in the application a means for transferring data between the first means for data transfer and the second means for data transfer via the wireless interface.
