PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-voltage discharge lamp having an extremely uniform temperature distribution and applicable to any lamp attitude. SOLUTION: A contour of an inner wall of a ceramic discharge tube has a single nearly straight and tubular center part 2 with a length L (cm) and an inner radius R (cm) and two nearly spherical end parts 3 with the same radius R (cm) as that of the center part 2. The length L (cm) of the center part 2 is smaller than or equal to 60% of the radius R (cm) [L (cm)≤0.6R(cm)] and an inner length of the discharge tube is longer at least by 10% than an inter-electrode interval EA (cm) [(2R+L) (cm)≥1.1 EA (cm)]. A diameter 2R (cm) of the discharge tube is equivalent to at least 80% of the interval EA (cm) and equals to the length of 150% of the interval EA (cm) maximum [1.5 EA (cm)≥0.8 EA (cm)]. An inside contour of the discharge tube is formed in a rotated ellipse shape with a half minor axis a (cm) and a half major axis b (cm) and expressions of R (cm)≤a (cm)≤1.1 R (cm) and b=R+L/2 are satisfied.
