PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for precisely detecting the position of a mobile unit in a wide management section even if a transmitter having a weak radio wave output is used as a transmitter mounted on the mobile unit regarding a technique for precisely detecting the position of the mobile unit traveling freely in the management section. SOLUTION: The position detection system A for specifying the position of the mobile unit D traveling in the management section C comprises a detection tag T provided in the mobile unit D; a robot R that detects mobile unit position information s (r,θ) including direction informationθin the detection tag T and distance information (r) and freely travels in the management section C; and a base station 1 for detecting the position information of detection means including an absolute position p (x, y) to the management section C in the robot R and an angleϕ, thus detecting a position q (X, Y) in the mobile unit D at the management section C from the position information of the detection means and the mobile unit position information s (r,θ).
