PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve response speed for start of reproduction of a disk and jump operation between chapters of a video information reproducing apparatus by a user. SOLUTION: This is a video information reproducing means constituted of a CPU 102, an instruction ROM 101, a MPEG decoder 103, a data memory 104, a buffer memory 105 for disk drive, an optical disk drive 106, an input/output block, an video output, and a menu buffer memory 109 as a nonvolatile storage means, stream data of a menu screen is read out from the menu buffer memory to the menu buffer memory at the time of loading a disk by storing previously stream data of the menu screen of the optical disk reproduced initially, decoding is started using the MPEG decoder, at the same time, reproduction can be started at high speed at the time of loading a disk by performing operation for reading data of a continued chapter from the optical disk drive.
