The motor vehicle's seat has a seat frame (4) connected to a swinging arm (3) which is pivotable on a base (2). A compensating spring (26) is fitted on the base and interacts with the swinging arm via a movable lever gear (28) which has a dead center point in an intermediate position of the seat between the in-use position and the bottom position. The preloaded compensating spring is sprung against both the in-use position and also the bottom position and makes the starting transition to the respective other position easier.
